World Oceans Day
We are celebrating World Oceans Day this year to show how important it is to look after the life that lives in the oceans! This year we are looking at plastic pollution.
Plastic that is not recycled properly can end up in the ocean and harm both the creatures and plants that live there.
Plastic pollution has really harmfully impacted a lot of the wildlife that live in the ocean as they can sometimes mistake it for food.
The ocean is the heart of our planet and it connects people across the Earth, no matter where you are. The ocean also regulates our climate, feeds millions of people every year and produces oxygen.
Look at a map of the world, there is a lot more ocean than land. In fact 71% of our planet is made up of ocean.
Everyone’s health depends on a clean, productive ocean.
Reasons to celebrate:
-
The ocean provides most of the oxygen we breathe.
-
Human actions have been negatively affecting the ocean and contributing to pollution. Raising awareness of what harms the ocean and what we can do stop is really important.
-
Celebrate how special the ocean is.
