Margaret Thatcher was an important person in British History even though lots of people didn't agree with her decisions.
She was the longest serving prime minister since 1782.
She was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire in 1925 as Margaret Hilda Roberts.
She became Margaret Thatcher after marrying Denis Thatcher in 1951.
She was the Education Secretary for the UK from 1970 to 1974.
She was the leader of the Conservative party and had a huge influence on Britain.
Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister of the UK for 11 years between 1979 and 1990 and was the UK's first female prime minister.
Some of her plans included cutting taxes, spending less money in government and also making it easier for people to buy their homes.
One of Thatcher's biggest plans was to let private companies to run services like British Gas and BT to make the services better.
Thatcher got the nickname 'The Iron Lady because she was tough and stuck to her decisions.
She apparently only slept for 4 hours a night while in power!
Mrs Thatcher was very good friends with American President Ronald Reagan, they were called 'political soul mates'.
After her death she is recognised as a prime minister who transformed the face of Britain.
