Emily Davison

Emily Davison was a suffragette who fought for votes for women in the United Kingdom in the early twentieth century.

  • Born in 11 October 1872

  • She was arrested 9 times while trying to get attention for her cause in different ways

  • While in prison she went on hunger strike 7 times!

  • Was force fed on 49 occasions

  • One time she even barricaded herself in her cell so the guards  tried to flood her out.

  • She died after stepping out in front of Kind George V’s horse during the 1913 Empson Derby

  • Her coffin was carried through London with 5,000 suffragettes next to it.

  • 50,000 people were lining the streets  during the ceremony
