21 October is National Apple Day! We've picked out some brilliant facts!

  There are more than 7,000 varieties of apple in the world – all different colours, tastes and textures.

  The saying 'An Apple A Day Keeps the Doctor Away' could be true because apples contain lots of vitamins and minerals which help to keep us healthy.

  Apples float on water because 25% of their volume is air.

  Scientists have determined that people have been eating apples for over 8,500 years.

  It takes 50 leaves to make enough energy to produce just one apple. Just think of how many leaves it must take to produce all the apples on a whole tree!

  Apple trees are a member of the rose family.
